Paints, chemicals, aerosols, batteries and agrochemicals usually fall under ADR and cannot move on a standard truck plan. BNK Logistics collects complete product data, arranges carriage with an ADR-compliant vehicle and driver, and builds the route around transit-country, tunnel and ferry restrictions.
What we do on a dangerous goods shipment
- Product data: UN number, proper shipping name, class, packing group, quantity and the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
- Vehicle and driver: an ADR-equipped vehicle and an ADR-trained driver suited to the class and quantity; tank or special equipment cases are assessed separately.
- Mixed loading check: incompatible classes are kept apart; in groupage plans compatibility with other cargo is checked.
- Route: transit rules, tunnel restrictions and ferry acceptance are confirmed before dispatch.
- Documents: we work with you, your dangerous goods safety adviser and your customs broker so ADR data is entered correctly on the transport document and CMR.
ADR classes at a glance
| Class | Hazard | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Explosives | Fireworks, cartridges |
| 2 | Gases | LPG, aerosols, gas cylinders |
| 3 | Flammable liquids | Paints, thinners, solvents, perfume |
| 4.1 / 4.2 / 4.3 | Flammable solids; spontaneously combustible; dangerous when wet | Sulphur, matches, some metal powders |
| 5.1 / 5.2 | Oxidizers; organic peroxides | Ammonium nitrate fertilizers, hydrogen peroxide |
| 6.1 / 6.2 | Toxic; infectious substances | Some pesticides, medical specimens |
| 7 | Radioactive material | Medical and industrial sources |
| 8 | Corrosives | Acids, alkalis, battery acid |
| 9 | Miscellaneous | Lithium batteries, dry ice, environmentally hazardous substances |
Classification is the consignor's responsibility and is based on the SDS. Classes 1 and 7 require special procedures and are reviewed case by case. ADR is amended regularly, so rules are confirmed against the version in force on the shipping date.
Information we need for a quote
- UN number and proper shipping name for each item
- ADR class, subsidiary hazard and packing group (I high, II medium, III low danger)
- Current SDS
- Packaging type (UN-approved packaging, IBC, drums), number of packages, net and gross quantity
- Whether limited quantity (LQ) or excepted quantity (EQ) provisions apply
- Addresses, target shipping date and any temperature requirement
Carriage with ADR-compliant vehicle and driver
The vehicle carries orange plates and hazard labels, instructions in writing for the driver, fire extinguishers and class-specific equipment. The driver must hold ADR training; tanks, gas cylinders in bulk and explosives also require a vehicle ADR approval certificate. We plan a vehicle and driver meeting these requirements and check documents and equipment before loading. Mixed loading rules can rule out groupage, so some loads are better planned as a full truck. See international road freight.
Borders, tunnels and ferries
- Tunnels: ADR assigns road tunnels to categories A to E, and each substance has a tunnel restriction code that determines which tunnels the vehicle may use.
- Ferries and Ro-Ro: acceptance and declaration rules for dangerous goods on Caspian or Black Sea crossings vary by operator and are confirmed in advance.
- Transit and destination rules: some countries require import permits, specific routes or notifications.
Border and route conditions on the shipping date are confirmed during planning. For Central Asian corridors see freight to Central Asia.
Sea legs and the IMDG Code
ADR covers road only. When cargo moves by sea, the IMDG Code applies, and RID applies by rail. UN numbers and classes are largely shared, but container stowage, segregation, labelling and declaration formats differ. The shipping line's acceptance, the dangerous goods declaration and the container packing certificate are settled before booking. See sea freight.
Document checklist
- Transport document and CMR with ADR particulars (UN number, name, class, packing group, packages, quantity)
- SDS and instructions in writing
- Vehicle ADR certificate and driver ADR training certificate where required
- Commercial invoice, packing list, export declaration
- Dangerous goods declaration for any sea leg
- Permits required by transit or destination countries
The final list is confirmed against current regulations. Check that your cargo insurance covers dangerous goods, as some policies exclude them.
Typical cargo and who we work with
We plan shipments for manufacturers and distributors of paints and coatings, industrial chemicals, cleaning products, cosmetics and perfumes containing alcohol, aerosols, batteries and battery-powered equipment, agrochemicals and fertilizers. Many of these shipments go to Central Asia, the Caucasus, Iran and Europe, where the same cargo may cross several countries with different transit rules. Large tanks or oversized equipment that also contain dangerous substances are planned together with project cargo requirements. Before the first shipment we recommend checking that product labels, packaging codes and the SDS match each other, as mismatches are a common cause of delays at loading and at the border.
Why BNK Logistics
- No vehicle proposal before UN number, class and SDS are clear.
- Road, sea and rail combined when needed, each under its own rules.
- One folder for each shipment's documents and photos; a tracking link with stages and shared documents.
- Communication in English, Russian, Turkish and Chinese; office in Antalya.

Frequently asked questions
What information do you need to quote a dangerous goods shipment?
For each item: UN number, proper shipping name, ADR class, packing group, packaging type and quantity, plus the current SDS. Add addresses and the target shipping date.
How do I know if my product is covered by ADR?
Section 14 of the SDS (transport information) shows the UN number, class and packing group. Classification is the consignor's responsibility; if in doubt, confirm with the manufacturer or your dangerous goods safety adviser.
Can dangerous goods travel as groupage?
Sometimes. Mixed loading prohibitions and vehicle equipment narrow the options, so we assess groupage or full truck based on class and quantity.
Are lithium batteries and aerosols dangerous goods?
Generally yes: lithium batteries are class 9 and aerosols class 2. Some obligations may be reduced, for example for limited quantities or batteries contained in equipment; the applicable rule depends on the SDS and current regulations.
Which rules apply if the cargo also goes by sea?
ADR applies on the road leg and the IMDG Code at sea. Stowage, segregation and declaration formats differ, so the shipping line's acceptance conditions are confirmed before booking.
How is the price determined?
It depends on class, quantity, equipment, route and whether the load is groupage or full truck. We quote based on your cargo details.
